Why Vedic moon days differ from Western Moon days:
Within the Vedic astrology system, the lunar cycle, is comprised of 30 ‘days’ or tithis; the new & full moon days are 2 of these tithis. The Vedic ‘moon day’ or tithi is a time span approximately 1/30th of the lunar cycle. Whereas the Western ‘moon day’ is considered the day in which the moon peaks in fullness and/or newness.
Being that yoga has its roots in Vedic culture, it makes sense to follow the vedic system rather than the Western system for determining when to take rest from our Ashtanga Yoga practice.
